Outpatients Department
North Shore Hospital: Auckland
Value: $12m
Client: Waitemata District Health Board
The Project
Waitemata DHB employs approximately 3,500 staff on its North Shore campus. This project involves the full external and internal refurbishment of a 3-storey building built in the 1970’s and coveting it from Nurse’s accommodation to an outpatient department, University of Auckland teaching space and offices. The first floor will accommodate 58 people and the second floor 62 people.
The building was of a difficult nature due to its construction type and has provided challenges at every stage i.e. during design and construction.
The project involved a significant amount of stakeholders and now accommodates the outpatients department which moved from the main hospital building into this one.
Perficio managed the project during the design stage and then were appointed as the Client Representative with a project management bias overseeing the project from inception to completion.

Solutions and Outcomes
Time had been a major objective as the space being vacated in the main hospital was to be converted into ward accommodation to assist in meeting the demands of winter patients.
To meet the Client’s time objectives, we ran design stages concurrently as we wanted a fully design building but could not reduce construction time due to the refurbishment nature.
Perficio put together all the contract documentation and provided Quality Control. We implemented strategies to complete the project despite the numerous challenges along the way. This is good example of a project that just kept giving!
